Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), is a non-invasive treatment that utilises low-power lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate cellular function and promote healing.
LLLT works by delivering low-level light energy to the targeted area, which is absorbed by cells and tissues. This absorption triggers various biological processes, including increased blood flow, reduced inflammation, and stimulation of cell repair and regeneration. LLLT can be used as a stand alone treatment but also works well with other manual therapies.
I have also completed training in how to use LLLT to stimulate acupuncture points throughout the body. In the UK only a vet can provide acupuncture with needles, however stimulating the same points with LLLT offers an alternative to using needles which is extremely useful for animals. Laser acupuncture is aseptic (sterile), non-invasive, painless with no reported side effects. It can help to manage chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, restore balance to the body, reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation and support healing. Laser acupuncture can be used alongside traditional laser methods and clinical canine massage to provide optimal results.
